People have different emotional reactions to various colors. Just looking at certain colors elicit an emotional connection to memories of personal experiences. Color and emotions are linked. There are many reasons why colors influence the way people feel. People interact on multiple levels of association with certain colors. There are cultural and social levels about particular colors.

Red color

The red color is a primary color. It is a powerful and emotion evoking color. The color can make you feel innocent and sweet when mixed with white to create a pink tone which brings out sharp responses in pure form. Adding black color gives the red color a darker emotional response like anger or conveys passion.

Red color can draw passion, power, growth, excitement, and stimulation which you can use to your advantage. Light red can symbolize love and joy. Dark red symbolizes anger and rage. However, it can also symbolize courage and leadership.

 

Green color

This is one of the most neutral and calming colors. It represents harmony and balance. The color is widely used to depict hope and nature. Lighter shades of green are cheery and have warm associations. Darker green tones represent safety, affluence, and stability more like money.

Green hue works in different situations as accents and base colors. It is a pleasing color to the eye and has many unintended emotional consequences like sickness or inexperience. Yellow-green symbolizes sickness or discord. Dark green also depicts prosperity and ambition. People associate the color with emotional stability and health with olive green symbolizing harmony and peace.

 

Blue Color

The color is known to symbolize security, peace, and serenity. It is the last of the three primary colors that create the RGB hue base used in digital designs for various design combinations. The color creates a sense of friendliness and calm. It is the most popular hue for social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook.

The hue works well as an accent and background color. Many people easily relate to the hue although it has masculine properties. The darker blue is text friendly and commonly used in corporate websites. Lighter hue is preferred for lighter applications. The color has a close association with the sky and water. It is rarely used in food packaging or combination with food because it has a calming effect which can suppress an appetite. Light blue symbolizes faith, depth, stability, and health. Dark blue also depicts trust, knowledge, integrity, and power.

 

Purple color

Purple color represents passion, tranquility, coll and warm feelings. The hue has long represented wealth, royalty, and power. The color promotes a sense of imagination and creativity because it is not dominant.

There are many practical uses of this color. Lighter shades depict feminine and softness and can symbolize a light romantic mood. Darker shades are moodier,  heavier and can cause uneasiness and instability. Light purple represents nostalgia with dark purple representing frustration, control, and gloom.

 

Yellow color

This is a happy color and mostly associated with encouragement and energy. The hue makes everything sunny and feels light. It has a stimulating effect and can be associated with caution.

Yellow highlights messages and makes sure it is clear. The color easily washes out, and it can lose its luster when applied in lighter forms. Light yellow represents trepidation and caution while dark yellow represents freshness, happiness, and joy.

 

Orange color

The color combines energy and passion from the primary colors. It tends to be energetic, inviting and balanced. It represents movement and can overpower other elements of design. Yellow-orange hue depicts wisdom and prestige. Red-orange depicts energy, pleasure, desire, and health. Dark orange depicts distrust and change.

 

Brown and neutrals

The colors are highly applicable in designs to represent calm and peace, reliability, boredom, and wholesomeness. Brown can work for accents and backgrounds. It blends with every other shade to create a pleasant effect. Pale brown represents elegance, purity, and calm. Medium tan represents dullness and conservation. Darker browns represent experience, comfort, and stability.

 

Black and white

The two are the purest form of color, and each represents formality and simplicity. It is nearly impossible to create anything without adding white or black. White hue is associated with perfection, purity, and cleanliness. Black color represents elegance, power, and mystery and is commonly associated with fear. A combination of black and white gives you Grey which has a gloomy and calm emotional effect. White hue depicts openness and clarity.
